"A New Song" AUGUST 2017

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

The Bible comes as a revelation from God. So God tells us that He sent His Word through “holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (II Peter 1:21). God likens His Word to five different objects:

 GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A HAMMER. God told Jeremiah that His Word, the Bible, is “like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces.” (Jeremiah 23:20). This shows the mighty power of God’s Word, so powerful that many a heart has been broken down and, in their crushing, called upon the Name of the Lord for salvation. (Acts 2:21). But I have to admit, I marvel at some of these old sinners that take a hammering from God, and still never repent. To them, I want to say, God will pound just so long—then comes the judgement. (Proverbs. 29:1).
 GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A SWORD. God tells us that His Word is sharper than a two-edge sword and that it pierces to the dividing of spirit and soul. (Hebrews 4:12, 13). The reason God pierces us is to reveal the sin in our heart and the need for cleansing. No one comes to Jesus until and unless they see their awful sinfulness and come to Him for salvation. When God pierced the heart of Zacchaeus, the little mutt confessed his sins to Jesus and paid back all the people he had cheated! (Luke 19:8). That’s why, sometimes when we read the Bible, we are pricked to the heart and do penance.
 GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A MIRROR. When we look into the Bible it is like looking into a mirror, and then cleaning ourselves up. James tells about two men, both look, but only one acts. One man looks, then goes on his merry way—-unshaven, hair uncombed, body odor and all the rest. The other man looks, then shaves, combs his hair, and puts Right Guard Deodorant under his left arm! (James 1:23-25). What good does it do if we look into a mirror and then do nothing about it! It is like reading the Bible and then not changing our ways to be more like Jesus. (Matthew 5:16).
 GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A LAMP. The Psalmist had it just right, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105). This world is a very dark place, and unless we have someone to light the way, we are going to land in a deep ditch. God knew that, so He gave us the Bible, the Word of God, to lighten our way. That is why I am so thrilled, the Christian Worship Hour is sending the Light of God’s Word all over the world via television and shortwave radio! I often wonder how many we have shown the way because we brought to them, in their darkness and night, the Light of the Word—Jesus, and the Lamp that never goes out—the Bible. (John 8:12, Isaiah 9:2).
 GOD LIKENS HIS WORD TO A BALM. God inquiries, “Is there no balm in Gilead?” (Jeremiah 8:32). God was referring to a little shrub that grew in Gilead and from whence they made a balm for healing. You can just see God asking Jeremiah, the Word of God is the healing balm, how come the people do not know about it? (Romans 10:15). So it is with the Bible—–it heals and comforts us in our sorrows. But what about the multitudes who do not know the Bible. Perhaps we have not told them, but mostly because they will not listen to God and His healing power in His son. I love to preach because I can bring good news to hurting people—-they can be helped, if they apply the remedy to their needs. (Matthew 11:28, 29).
Do you know what? The world will never know about the Bible and all it has for them unless someone tells them. And we just cannot tell them unless we have the money for the stations and our costs. I pray that you will pray and ask God what He wants you to do, if anything. We have no other source of income except from God’s people. I know that will be sufficient for all the needs we have to carry out God’s will for the ministry of the Christian Worship Hour. (Philippians 4:19).

God bless you. I’ll be watching for you this weekend.

In Our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
My husband had emergency surgery. He was suffering with great pain and loneliness. A Christian nurse helped him pray and when he got home we received the “New Song”. Everything written by Pastor Salem was like it was written for him. God bless you.
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

God bless your message. The devil had me tricked that I couldn’t be forgiven for all that I had done. Your message of the forgiveness of Christ really touched me. Thank you!
ULM, MONTANA

Love your sermon this week about old people, shut-ins. That is me since I am old and broke. I have no friends, no church, no pastor, no family, no neighbors. So I get awful lonesome. I don’t even get phone calls. It is like everyone buried me alive. I am disabled so that doesn’t help but God, Jesus, Holy Spirit will never leave me or forsake me and love me unconditionally and you understand and don’t forget to pray for us.
DUNNELLON, FLORIDA

My husband passed away at the age of 85 from cancer. He lost his mom when he was eight years old and he passed away on Mother’s Day. He watched your program on Sunday many times and John accepted Jesus as his Savior at the last days of his life because of your sermons. He was amazed you are almost 96. This is the main reason he liked your sermons so much!
SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA

The Christian Worship Hour has been an immeasurable blessing in my life. I can’t wait until Sunday morning comes so I can get “churched” up a little. I have several higher educational degrees but they don’t amount to a hill of beans. It is simple truths that lead us to God.
KINGSLEY, MICHIGAN

I wish I could express in English all my feelings for your spiritual support but you know that is not my native language. However, receive these feelings in the language we both understand and share; the Word of our Lord. God bless you and thanks again for being our spiritual leader.
HAVANA, CUBA

My mother and I have been watching you for several months and so enjoy your sermons. You are so down to earth and say it like it is. We really like that. Mother will turn 93 next month and she wanted you to know that we feel so much closer to the Lord since we have been listening to your services.
KNOXVILLE, IOWA

I was led to Jesus (as you) at a young age of 9 years by my sister when she was 17 years old but only two months old as a newly-born-again Christian.
WASILLA, ALASKA

I’ve heard you today on shortwave with Christian Worship Hour programme. I knew you are celebrating your 96th birthday. This letter is just to wish you all the best for this importante day. God bless you and your mission. Sorry for my poor English. I speak Portuguese. Sincerely yours,
SAO PAULO, BRAZIL

Please pray for me and my relationship with God!
HUNGRY HORSE, MONTANA

On another note, Last week, you surprised me when you talked about knowing some bull riders (not really sure why I was surprised, just unexpected I guess). I used to be a rodeo competitor and then a rodeo clown/bullfighter. It was only recently that I started watching your broadcasts and your ministry has been a blessing.
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

I’m writing this for my cowboy husband who made his 8 second ride and Jesus is picking him up. I’m going downhill and can’t keep going. I praise God for keeping my pain down. I will meet you in heaven and we will talk things over. God holds my hand. Please know we keep you and your staff in our prayers and will continue to support you! God bless you. Your old cowboy friend and wife. (Byron died June 3, 2017)

Memorials

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
(Revelation 14:13)
