GROVER CLEVELAND ALEXANDER was one of the greatest baseball pitchers of all time. His record of 90 shutouts still stands. His 373 recorded victories has been matched by only one other pitcher. In 1938 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. From his earliest childhood out on the farm, his one dream was to be a baseball pitcher. He used to throw apples and stones at fence posts so as to sharpen his skills. One day he bought a few baseballs and nailed an old catcher’s mitt to the chicken coop. He got so accurate that he could hit the mitt nine times out of ten. He practiced incessantly for years; he never got tired, he never gave up. He just fought on and on and became the world’s best! Do you know what? God has a plan for all of us. It probably won’t be throwing baseballs, but it will be something for which God has gifted you. Whatever your gift, whatever your goal, always give it your best to the glory of God.
