Mark 8:36, 37

It was just one of those down days for Joe. Nothing, I mean nothing, had gone right for him. He had struck out on three sales in a row and the fourth one was a disaster.

So, he goes to his favorite diner for lunch and tells the waitress, “Please, I would like just two things; an order of the pot roast and a few kind words.” Looking at him kindly she replied. “Well, the kindest words I can think of now are, don’t order the pot roast.”

I wonder how many “Joe’s” are out there who are hurting and wishing for someone to give them a kind word.

But do you know what? A kind word doesn’t always mean a pat on the back or some compliment, although that might be a part of it. But words that help people come to the Lord are also kind words. Without question, Jesus was the kindest, most caring Person who ever walked among men. And yet there were times when Jesus, in kindness, compelled the people to consider the welfare of their soul.  Listen to Jesus talk to the people around Him. “For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul. Or what shall a man give in exchange of his own soul?” (Mark 8:36, 37).

Really, the kindest words we can speak to a friend are the things that deal with eternity.
