Recently I read the story of a king long ago who would leave his palace and walk through the streets of his city dressed as one of his subjects. His guards feared for his life and often would try to stop him. One of his guards said, “You must not do it for security’s sake!” But the king replied, “I cannot rule my people unless I know them and see how they live.”
When I read that story, I immediately thought of the great fact that God gives us in Hebrews 4:15. Here the writer tells us about Jesus and how He walked among us and experienced exactly where we lived and what we face. He writes, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” That gives me great comfort because it tells me that God was in Christ so that God Himself knows exactly how we feel when we go through the troubles and trials of life. Yes, Jesus walked among us, and it all began at Christmas!
