Scripture: I THESSALONIANS 5:18
Broadcast date: 09/05/2016

The other day I heard about someone who estimated that humans breathe eighteen times a minute; that is approximately 1,080 times an hour or about 25,000 times a day. Believe it or not, that amounts to 912,500,000 breaths a year. That about takes your breath away!

Lord have mercy. When I thought about it for a minute or two, it occurred to me that of all that breathing, I had not so much as thought about taking a single breath, God had given me the ability to do so without my thinking about it. Which brings me to the point how many other things happen to me that I take for granted, that I never think about. For instance, how many times does my heart beat without my so much as realizing it? Perhaps a good way to remember these blessings is when we sneeze. They tell me our heart momentarily stops when we sneeze. That might be a good time to thank God, not only for our heartbeat and our breath, but for all the blessings God gives us. The apostle Paul spoke about this very thing when he instructed us, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (I Thessalonians 5:18.) With the next breath, let’s give God thanks for all the blessings He bestows upon us.
