Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

The other day I ran across a statement that the Apostle Peter gave us:

“For even hereunto were ye called; because Christ also suffered for us,
Leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps. ”
I Peter 2: 21

I thought, now that is some very good advice because, it seems, we are always looking at the other fellow and how they live. Before too long we see some shortcomings that make us shake our head and worry about something that is really none of our business. Then I thought of St. Peter’s advice, that is, to look at Jesus and see how we measure up to Him.

Really, our sole goal in life ought to be like Jesus. Instead of seeing all the shortcomings of those about us, we need to see how we measure up to the Savior. It seems to me that Christ is our example in at least four ways.

  • JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE IN TRUSTING GOD. So many times I catch myself wondering, “How will this ever come to pass?” Or, “What if God doesn’t work these things out?” And then I remember the perfect example of Jesus who never doubted the Heavenly Father. Satan came to tempt Jesus at least three times, and every time Jesus rebuffed him because Jesus relied on God’s word. Jesus never doubted. Jesus knew that God would not fail, could not fail. So we must lean upon God, trust in Him and never question our Heavenly Father.-
  • JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE IN LIVING THE GODLY LIFE. Jesus was perfect as He walked among us. Our first parents were perfect for a time, but then they failed in the Garden of Eden, and their sin passed on all of us. Lest we get upset with them for sinning, we need to remember that we would have done the same thing. But when we come to Jesus, He takes away our sin, and we can begin again to live for Him. When we sin, He forgives if we confess (I John 1:9) and we continue our quest to “Be ye therefore perfect, even as our Father in heaven is perfect”. (Matthew 5:48). Someday we will be perfect!
  • JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE IN LOVING OTHERS. St. Paul instructs us to “Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us”. (Ephesians 5:2). Some people are easy to love, while others are a challenge. But God calls on us to love others, either way. And notice, it is a command to love. Which means, we must be obedient and love others in all things. We just need to make up our mind that we are not going to hold a grudge against anyone and that we are going to love everyone. If God tells us to do it, He will help us to do it. (II Timothy 4: 7, 9).
  • JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE OF REMAINING TRUE. Once we have given our allegiance to Jesus, we must never turn back. Once we have put our hand to the plow, we must never look back. Jesus came to do a work for God, and He never wavered or slacked up. The writer to the Hebrews put it this way “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down on the right and of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). Let’s keep our eye on the goal, that day when our earthly race is over and we gather around the throne of God in heaven. Remember, it is always too soon to give up! (II Tim. 4: 7,8)

So, Jesus is our Example. He told us in no uncertain words to carry the gospel to all the world. (Matt. 28:19). But, dear friends, we cannot do it alone—we need you all to obey this commandment. As you pray and give, we get out the good news. Without your support, we will fail. We cannot do it alone. God bless you, each one.

In our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, Pastor

I am wanting to tell you my mother passed away March 9th. She was 103 years born in 1911. She had accepted Jesus into her heart when she was 7 years old. So there is hope for you. I am praying you will be here until the rapture comes.
MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA

Thanks again for your blessed ministries and broadcast. I am always so grateful and joyful whenever attending your weekly lessons. Your spiritual lessons able to fill my spiritual water pot to the brim. That is why I wish that there are two or three Sundays a week. There is no difference at all for me whether seeing you teaching or listening to your teaching. What matters most is your lessons and inspirations. It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh providith nothing.
SARAWAK, MALAYSIA

I am six years old. I watch your videos on Sundays. I also go to church on Sundays. I really like your program. You’re the best church I watch. I am sending 11 cents for you. Thank you for your program.
NAMPA, IDAHO

I just recently lost my grandmother a few days ago. She was 95 years old and had Alzheimer’s disease. She was such a big fan of your show and always watched it every Sunday at 10:00 am. I had been watching the Christian Worship Hour one Sunday last month a few weeks before she passed away and decided to give my life to Jesus. I had told her this while she was in the hospital a few days before she passed away and had been so happy for me. Pray for me as I embark on this new journey with Jesus Christ. God bless the Christian Worship Hour and everything that you do.
LEE’S SUMMITT, MISSOURI

I need to accept Jesus Christ. Please send materials.
