"A New Song" JANUARY 2016

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
When I sat down to write this first letter of 2016, I thought—I have to have a promise of God for all of us to start the New Year.  So I turned to the Book of Philippians, chapter four and instead of one wonderful promise, I found SIX.

So here are six precious promises God has given for the year ahead; promises that will carry us through and help us over any rough spots that might be ahead:

  • REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS, vs 4.  God tells us, His children that we should always be happy and rejoicing.  The thing to remember is, if God tells us to do something, He will enable us to do it!  So next time you stub your toe, give thanks and praise to God and rejoice in Him.  Impossible?  If you try to do it on your own, well yes it is; but if we do it with the Lord’s help, it is possible.  A verse that helps me a lot in time of trouble is Romans 8:28—that ALL things (good and bad) work together for good.  (Ps. 19:8; 32:11; I Pet. 4:13; Rev. 19:7).
  • BE CAREFUL FOR NOTHING, vs 6.  This should be translated ‘anxious’ for nothing.  In other words, don’t worry and fret.  When I was out on the farm, we had old sitting hens that continually fretted and fussed over their chicks.  We hated to see them in such a tizzy so we made soup out of them!  A lot of Christians are in a stew because they don’t rely on God.  The chickens didn’t have a Bible so they didn’t have an excuse for worrying.  We don’t have any excuse.  (Ps. 62:8; 125:1; Isa. 26:4; Jer. 17:7, 8)
  • WE CAN HAVE THE PEACE OF GOD, vs 7.  Isaiah said that the “wicked are like the troubled sea….whose waters cast up mire and dirt” (Isa. 57:20).  But you know what? There are plenty of Christians who have the same condition! You know why?  They are not at peace with God; they have some sin in their life that destroys the fellowship God wants to have with them.  To have real peace with God, we have to forsake all known sin.  Not easy but worth it! (Ps. 85:8; 122:6-8; Isa. 48:22, 57:21; I John 1:9).
  • I CAN BE CONTENT. vs 11.  Have you ever noticed how discontented the people out in the world are?  They are never satisfied, but are running hither and yon looking for something to fulfill them.  But they will never be content until they have Christ in their heart.  We were made for God and until and unless we have God in our life through personally accepting Jesus, we will never be at ease.  On the other hand, if we have Christ in our heart, we will be content no matter what we have, or don’t have.  (Ps. 23:2; Matt. 5:6; Luke 6:21; Phil. 4:12).
  • I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST. vs 13.  None of us knows what lies ahead in 2016.  Chances are that there will be good things and bad—because that is what life is made up of.  But one thing we can know, and that is with Jesus all things are possible and with His help, we will have the strength for anything that might come our way.  The key to it all is we must be in the Father’s will.  So God taught us to pray that, not my will but His be done.  Satan and his hosts of hell cannot so much as touch us if we remain in the Lord’s will.  (Ezra 10:4; Ps. 27:14; Isa. 40:28-31; I cor. 1:27-29; 4:10; Heb. 11:33-40).
  • GOD WILL SUPPLY ALL MY NEEDS, vs 19.  All my needs—that takes in the material, physical, spiritual, emotional, financial and you name it; since God made everything, He owns everything and He shares it with us as we need it.  That does not mean we will not have troubles and trials; Jesus said we would.  But it means God will see us through anything that He allows to come our way.  (Ex. 16:4-10; I Kings 17:2-7; Matt. 6:25-34; I Tim. 6:17)

So bring on 2016.  With our dear Lord’s help, we will live through it all and have fun doing it. Besides who knows—Jesus might come this year!  Let me close by urging you to pray and give.  These are hard times for some of you, but God needs be first no matter which way the wind blows.  Pray hard, give liberally, and rejoice profusely,   I’ll be looking for you this weekend!

In our Savior’s Love,
Harold E. Salem, Pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

I am 93 and have been so discouraged due to unsolvable problems of every kind.  Then I found your program on T.V. and from your message about Jesus and faith, I’ve put aside my “pity party” and directed my thoughts to finding trust in the Lord once again.

SEBRING, FLORIDA

God bless you Rev. Salem.  I gave my heart and soul to God.  I will listen to the Worship Hour.

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA

May God continue to bless you with the ability to preach.  We watch every Saturday no matter what game is on T.V.  When you program comes on—OFF goes the game.

PETERSBURG, FLORIDA

Dear Harold,   I believe your voice is getting stronger.  You are getting better with age.  I am 102 and need your sermons.  In Christian Love, Harold Wass.

WORTHINGTON, MINNESOTA

This is my first time writing you and it is on my 44th birthday.  I just want to tell you, you are very much appreciated.  I am a Vietnamese man and one of the things I love about you is that you pray for other countries.  I am trying to help the Christian Worship Hour a little bit.  Sorry it is not more.  Thank you and God bless you!!!!!!

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

How do I get this fear and doubt out of me that I will spend eternity in hell?  Help me, please.

OSKALOOSA, IOWA

My great granddaughter was here when you were preaching and she said AMEN.  She is only 2 years old.

TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI

I was sick and listened to your message in Anchorage, Alaska.  I have known the Lord as my Savior for 70 years.  Your message lifted me up.  May God truly bless your efforts to spread His gospel throughout the country.

ANCHORAGE, ALAKSA

Dear Pastor Salem, I’m Alyssa.  I’m seven years old.  My dad has a bad cough.  We hope he can get over it.  We love your sermons, songs and music.  We thank your staff and you.  With lots of love.

KENORA, ONTARIO, CANADA

Yes, we are just waiting for transportation right now—-knowing God’s rapture will be soon.  Keep on keeping on.

LINEVILLE, IOWA

A while back I heard you say once you ask Jesus to come into your life, you don’t have to ask him again.  Well, thank you for setting us all straight.  Here I’ve probably done that a 1,000 times.  You ruined the devil’s day when you said that once is enough.  God has blessed you.  He is keeping you healthy so you can keep preaching to us sinners.  But don’t worry, God will call you home one of these years and I hope to thank you and shake your hand either here or there.  See you then.  Love to all you at CWH.

FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA

My daughter & son-in-law are living in Herzliya, Israel, at the present and can get your program there.  God bless you for providing such access.

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA

Thank you all and especially to Pastor for the inspiration.  My hellish and broken life has turned around.  I am praising Jesus Christ.  I am born again!

DICKINSON, NORTH DAKOTA
