"A New Song" SEPTEMBER 2016

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

For our Bible Study this month I want to look at a beautiful statement Jesus made. He declared at the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem:

“I am the Light of the world; he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness…
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which seeth in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:6

Six thoughts come to mind out of this wonderful declaration:

  • THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD IS JESUS
To the Jews and to the Gentiles the Word goes forth, Jesus is the Light of the whole world. That is, outside of Jesus Christ there is no light but only darkness and death! The Psalmist had it right when he proclaimed, “The Lord is my light.” (Ps. 27:1) So we sing, “The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin; the Light of the world is Jesus.” (John 12:40; II Cor. 4:4).
  • THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD BRINGS SALVATION
Isaiah writes, “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great Light; they sat in the Land of death and the Light broke through upon them.” (Isaiah 9:2). So a lost soul sitting in darkness sees a great light, Jesus, and calls upon His name and is saved out of that darkness and death. Have you seen the Light? Have you asked Jesus into your heart and life! (Matt. 28:20; John 16:33, Rev. 3:20).
  • THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD GUIDES US THROUGH LIFE
Life is a pilgrimage and God have mercy on the soul who travels alone in the darkness of this world. Jesus not only saves us, but guides and helps us all through life. There are some mountain tops, but there are also many valleys. My heart aches for those who make the trip alone. Come to the Savior Who promises, “Never to leave us or forsake us.” (Matthew 28:20; John 16:33; Hebrews 13:5)
  • THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD GIVES US MANY BLESSINGS
And I might add, blessings that money cannot buy. For instance, He gives us peace at heart as we walk along. He gives us companionship and fellowship day by day. I have discovered it is no fun living alone. And then I remember, I am not alone, Jesus is always there; and it gives me great comfort. The nights are not so lonely and the days are not so long when He is by my side! And, oh yes, He gives me hope for tomorrow. The best is yet to come; Jesus promised us that, and He always keeps His word! Blessings in Christ—and you better believe it! (Isaiah 61:10; Lam. 3:23, Phil 4: 6, 7)
  • THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD CALLS FOR COMMITMENT
God calls all of us who have come to the Light to separate ourselves unto Him. God calls for us to “come out from among them, and be ye separate, and to present our bodies a living sacrifice unto Him. (Rom 12:1, 2) Really Jesus was very open and honest about what it would cost to follow Him. (Matt. 16:24) It’s going to cost us to follow Jesus—none of this health and wealth stuff that’s being peddled around. Instead it is as one pastor said, “Jesus calls us to come and die with Him.” (John 16:33; II Cor. 6:17; II Tim. 5:12)
  • THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD LEADS US HOME
Not that house made with hands, but that eternal home in the skies! (Heb. 11:10). That is our destiny; that is our dream; that is our goal. The city celestial with friends and loved ones waiting. And the only way to get there is through the Light of the World because He knows the way. It is where He lives so take heart and push on! (Isaiah 43:2, 3; John 14:6)

So that is what the Christian Worship Hour is all about; telling a lost and dark world that Jesus is the Light of the World! And do you know what? Almost every week we hear from someone coming to Jesus, coming to the Light! Praise God. (Luke 15:10)

And in the same breath, let me “thank you” because without your support, we could not continue to tell the whole wide world via television and shortwave radio, that Jesus is the Light—the only Light in a dark, dark world. So thank you for your gifts. Our ONLY source of income is from God’s people.

God bless you; I’ll be looking for you down the Road.

In our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, Pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

I was unable to attend service at my church so I tuned on to your broadcast. I thoroughly enjoyed your message on John 3:16. I am a 96 year old free will Baptist preacher and have been trying to preach the glorious gospel for over fifty years, Bro. preacher you are an inspiration to me.

BELTON, MISSOURI

I just finished watching the Christian Worship Hour and I’m praising God for your message. God really touched my heart. I am feeling a peace I haven’t felt in a while. I needed to be with you during that time. I’ve been feeling closer and closer to my God lately and as you spoke I stood up and opened my arms and asked Jesus to come into my heart as you asked me to do and have had a deep peace ever since. I am handicapped with a bad back and can no longer go to church, so Daystar is my church.

SPRING VALLEY, CALIFORNIA

I love your sermons and watch you every week! A couple of weeks ago I prayed with you asking Jesus to forgive my sins. I cried and took Jesus as my Savior. It is such a comfort to talk with hem every day. Thank you for all you do.

ABERDEEN, SOUTH DAKOTA

There are approximately 60 women in this facility, most on drug charges. I ask that you pray for all of us to be strong against our addiction and be able to stay strong throughout our incarceration. Pray for our children and grandchildren to be safe until such a time as we can hold them in our arms again. Your worship hour brings so much peace into my heart every Sunday morning. At this time I am unable to make a monetary donation but please know I keep your mission in my prayers.

MISSOULA, MONTANA

Although I am a Mormon by faith, I occasionally watch your program on Sunday mornings. I enjoy the music selections and I do admire the years you have been teaching from the Holy Bible! May the heavenly Father continue to bless you with good health and a long life Pastor Salem.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO

I plan to be cremated. Question is do my loved ones need to keep the ashes, put them in a jar or just toss them into the field anywhere. That is what I hope they will do. My spirit and soul are gone to meet the Lord. Thank you.

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA

You changed my life and my family’s lives. In 1998 when I was 31 years old, I was baptized with my father and older brother. Your sermons were the words my father needed to understand how to have a relationship with Jesus. Until he heard your sermons, he didn’t truly believe. Thank you for your teachings each week—we will all continue to listen and learn from you.

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA

I thank you and your team for your sermons each week. On May 22 of this year, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Many times before I prayed with you during the invitation segments of your sermons but I was missing the final step to complete the transaction (telling someone). As you have stated many times Satan will try to get you to do it later as opposed to right now. .

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA

HI! It’s me Livia. I am sending $29 from what I have tithed from my allowance. Please use this for your ministry. I still pray for you every day. The triplets are good. Guess what! I just finished 1st grade. God bless. Love, Livia, (7 ½ years old; triplets 4½ yrs old).

DAVENPORT, NORTH DAKOTA

Dear Christian Worship Hour, I said the sinners prayer with pastor over T.V. He said ask for the salvation booklet. Please send me one. I prayed that prayer with him. Please remember me and my dad in prayer. I got two years prison time.

KANSAS, MISSOURI

Thank you for such a good program. Ever since I found your program on the T.V. I have watched if I am not working. Your preaching is so real that sometimes when I watch your program, I cry. I have asked Jesus into my life and I am a changed person. It has been a great experience. You have changed my thinking about life. Please continue to pray for me and my family. Keep up the good work and your staff also.

FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA
