DEVOTIONAL BIBLE STUDY: “Ways to Thank God”
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
When we come to the month of November we automatically think about Thanksgiving and being thankful. As we think about the matter of being thankful, please read PSALM ONE HUNDRED, and then these observations on, “THE WAYS TO THANK GOD”.
From the writings of Pastor Salem:
v MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE TO THE LORD. vs. 1. Not just any kind of noise, but a joyful noise. You know, like football fans do when their team makes a touchdown! God is so good to us, we need to let Him know that we realize that “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17).
v SERVE THE LORD WITH GLADNESS. vs 2. Nothing is more ridiculous than an unhappy-looking Christian half-heartedly thanking God. Some of God’s people are so dismayed they can’t find the joy in even the littlest of things! How do you think our Father in Heaven feels when He hears us moaning and groaning instead of rejoicing in our salvation and busy doing His work with joy and gladness. (Psalm 118:24).
v SING TO GOD. vs 2. When I sing, some people look cross-eyed at me, but God knows my heart - I mean well even if I sound bad. If Jesus is in our heart we will sing His praises, one way or another. (Colossians 3:16). And you know what, when we get to heaven we are going to sing the praises of our Lord, so we had better practice here. (Revelation 4:11; Revelation 5:12).
v ACKNOWLEDGE GOD. vs 3. That is, praise Him for Who He is. Always remember, He is the One Who created us. We didn’t come from some ape, but we came from the hand of God and the breath of God! So we turn to God in repentance, prayerfully receive His Son Jesus into our heart and life, and become a Child of God! (Psalm 100:3; John 5:24).
v BE THANKFUL TO GOD. vs 4. Have you ever thought about how good God is? For instance, the very breath we breathe is a gift from God; every heartbeat is a gift from God. And, in things spiritual, our most precious possession, our soul, is saved because this wonderful God gave His Son to be our Savior. (John 3:16).
v PRAISE GOD FOR WHO HE IS. vs. 4. David wrote about that when he said, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him?” (Psalm 8:4). In other words, David is saying, “God, you are so great and mighty and awesome in power and might, why would you ever even so much as think about puny man.” But God did not only think about us, He gave His Precious Son for us. How can we but praise Him! (Psalm 148:1-5).
v BLESS GOD’S NAME. vs 4. Revere the Holy Name and thank God for Who He is. Let us bow down before Him in adoration and praise. (Psalm 95:6). Just think, He loved us so much He gave us His Son, the Son of God, God himself. Sing His praises and honor His Name. (Psalm 103:1,2).
v WE PRAISE GOD FOR YOU. I know some of you are having hard times, but we still have God. I am a child of the Great Depression, I know how we struggled and went without a lot of things; but we always had God, Who helped us through. We are thankful for you and your support. Please pray, and stand by, as best you can. It is all for the glory of God. (Psalm 6:7-9).
