"A New Song" OCTOBER 2018

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

One day, in Old Jerusalem, Jesus said to a scribe (a scribe was an expert in Old Testament Law),

“Thou are not far from the kingdom of God.” Mark 12:34

Just look at that, this man was almost in the kingdom of God, almost saved, ever so close—but lost eternally!
Look at him:

 HE BELIEVED IN GOD, BUT WAS NOT SAVED. He knew there was but one God, he openly confessed that to Jesus, no question about it. I have known people who think they are going to heaven because they believe in God. St. James points out the fact that believing in God is no big deal because the Devil does and he is the son of perdition! (James 2:19). Only the fools believe there is no God. (Ps. 14:1). Just believing there is a God never saved a soul! Believing in God is not enough, we must believe in Jesus! (John 14:6).

 HE KNEW HE WAS A SINNER, AND WAS NOT SAVED. For all of his religiosity he was not at peace with God, he was not saved. He was searching and he came to Jesus for the answer. Nicodemus did the same thing. (John 3:2). Both men knew there was a disconnect between them and God. Before a person can be saved, he must confess he is a sinner and needs a Savior. (Acts 16:30).

 HE READ THE BIBLE, BUT WAS NOT SAVED. As a matter – of- fact, it was his profession to know the Bible backwards and forwards. But, for all of that, he was not saved, he was near the kingdom but not in! Just because you read the Bible does not mean you are going to heaven, you must accept Jesus! (John 3:18). Remember, the dirty, old Devil quoted Scripture! (Matthew 4:6).

 HE WENT TO CHURCH, BUT WAS NOT SAVED. He was in the temple every day! He didn’t go just at Passover and Pentecost, he went daily. If going to church saved a man, this scribe would have been in the kingdom a long time ago. But going to church doesn’t make us a Christian any more than going into a garage make us a car. I believe in going to church, but salvation comes only through accepting Jesus personally into our heart. (Rev. 3:20). I did that 87 years ago when I was 10 years old!

 HE HELPED OTHERS, BUT WAS NOT SAVED. As a good Jew, this scribe would have obeyed the law to help the poor, (Ps. 40:1). He would have given at least 10% of his income to God’s work. But, he could have worked his head off and still gone to hell because nobody, and I mean nobody, enters the kingdom by works. (Eph. 2:8,9). I pray to God that you are not counting on works to be saved. (Isaiah 64:6).

 HE WAS SINCERE, BUT WAS NOT SAVED. I hear it over and over, if a person is just sincere, he will get to heaven. The only problem was that sort of thinking is the fact that we can be sincerely wrong. God clearly warns us that “there is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Prov. 16:25). The broad road that leads to hell is filled with sincere people! (Matt. 7:13,14). Sincerity will never save you!

THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY INTO THE KINGDOM, INTO SALVATION, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 14:6). We must personally ask Him to come into our heart, our life. (John 1:12). That is the only message the Christian Worship Hour has, simply, ask Jesus to come into your heart and cleanse you of all your sins. Promise to follow Him as best you can, and be sure to tell others when you accept Jesus. (John 5:24).

And when you give, and pray, and tell others—you make this all possible.

In Our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
Yes, I lived in your times too, cream to the creamery, eggs for yardage for mama to make me a new dress. Love to hear you. God bless you. I am 94.
BREMERTON, WASHINGTON

My parents enjoyed watching you when my mother could no longer go to church. She passed away in March 2017. My dad continued watching you because of his health making it difficult to go to their church. On July 8, all of his children were home and we all watched your service that morning. Dad went home to live with the Lord two hours later. Our last fond memory with our Dad was watching you preach that day. Thank you for touching my parent’s lives for the past several years.
HURON, SOUTH DAKOTA

I heard you say that you were not too crazy about cats. I love cats!!! And my cat reads the BIBLE!!! Much love.
ST. FRANCIS, MINNESOTA

I am so happy to tell you how much we have loved “Heart of a Shepherd”. It is going all around in my family now. I have three children, 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grands (I think). It’s so meaningful to me after 50 years a Christian to hear you say, “and just do the best you can”. That’s what I’m doing. It’s not all I want to do but Jesus understands and accepts me. Love to all of you and the Peace of our lord.
KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN

We are blessed with your dedication in serving the Lord. I am a new Christian 43 years old while my wife has been a Christian since she was 13 years old. God bless you with more joyous years to come and maybe, who knows, you might visit Italy! God ‘s blessings upon you and your church!
FLORENCE, ITALY (FACEBOOK)

I applaud you on the down to earth way of delivering the gospel. You have always paralleled the gospel with how we can best apply the readings to our everyday living. Thanks for touching so many lives each week. I drive an 18 wheeler. I am not able to attend a regular church service due to specific unload times.
BROOKINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA

I am a Viet Nam veteran. I carry a lot of sadness. As I watch the “Christian Worship Hour”, I have tears flowing down my cheeks. But I feel God’s comfort through your blessed worship hour. We are blessed to have your worship hour on TV. Thank you Pastor. God’s blessings to you and your church. Sincerely,
SALEM, SOUTH DAKOTA

All the absolutely pure and good wishes of God himself—-for your life, family and ministry! Happy My thanks for the ministry you gave to my husband and me for quite a few years. I believe you were instrumental in deepening his Christian faith and possibly helping him to begin it. He left us for his eternal home 11-30-17.
ABERCROMBIE, NORTH DAKOTA

Just want to thank you for your “down to earth” sermons on Sunday. My 94-year-old mom and I watch you every Sunday. She just finished radiation therapy and without your messages every Sunday she says she wouldn’t have made it through 35 treatments.
KNOXVILLE, IOWA

We requested 3 of your “Heart of a Shepherd” DVDs. OH, we should have asked for more! We were blessed in watching it and then passed our 3 on to other fortunate folks. Others would like it too so please send 5 more.
NEWPORT, OREGON

My daughter in Norway gets your program but I can’t.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO

Memorials

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
