"A New Song" FEBRUARY 2018
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
February is “LOVE’ month hence, Valentine’s Day. So I thought, let’s look at the Bible’s LOVE chapter, I Corinthians 13. Please re-read it because it is a beautiful description of what love really is. It is God’s description of love.
LOVE SUFFERETH LONG, AND IS KIND. Vs 4. This simply means that love is “very patient”, and never gives up. Jesus showed us what that meant so that when He was reviled, he reviled not again (I Pet. 2:23). When He was being crucified, He loved, and on the cross prayed for those who nailed Him there. (Luke 23:24). Young, godly Stephen, first martyr of the church, did the same thing when they “cast him out of the city, and stoned him;” (Acts 7:60). So, the next time you want to punch somebody in the nose, remember love never strikes back but is kind! (Ephesians 5:2).
LOVE VAUNTETH NOT, IS NOT PUFFED UP. vs 4. Love is not a show-off or a braggart, talking about our self and how great we are. Jesus never did that, but humbled Himself, became a servant, and died a terrible death for us! (Phil 2:5-8). Jesus is God, yet He never flaunted His divinity but washed the disciple’s feet! (John 13:2-17). Some Christians are so puffed up they make a peacock jealous! God’s love does not act that way. (Eph. 5:19).
LOVE IS NOT EASILY PROVOKED, THINKS NO EVIL. Vs 5. This simply means that love is not “bad-tempered”. I’ve known some Christians that are just like balloons, you don’t know when they are going to blow up! If we have the love of Christ in us, we won’t strike back or be vindictive. (Matt. 5:39-44). When we think evil, hold grudges, and have a general bad mood—we don’t have the love of Christ, but the mind of the devil, he just loves to cause trouble. (Romans 8:35; Eph. 3:19; Rev. 2:10).
LOVE REJOICES NOT IN INIQUITY, BUT IN THE TRUTH. Vs 6. Do we ever take satisfaction in seeing a fellow believer fall, and say to our self, I am better than that? (I Cor. 10:12). Or do we shed a tear for the fallen and praise God when he or she comes back to the fold? God has clearly told us to help the fallen and the weak. (Roman. 15:1-3; Col. 3:14).
LOVE BEARS, BELIEVES, HOPES AND ENDURES ALL THINGS. Vs 7. All put together this means that we absolutely never give up on anyone! That person may look like a scamp, and really be a scamp, but if we love as we should we will see them as ONE made in the image of God and by God’s grace we will never give up on winning their soul to Jesus! And if we are honest, maybe we weren’t so great before we were saved either. (I Cor. 12:31; II Cor. 5:14).
LOVE NEVER FAILS! Vs 8. In verse 13 we have the three spiritual graces—faith, hope, love. Faith will end when we get to heaven, we will not need faith anymore, everything will be seen. Nor will we have hope any longer, because in heaven hope will be fulfilled, there will be nothing to hope for, it will all be there. But love—that never ends! It is the greatest of gifts. (I Cor. 13:13). No wonder we say, “God is love”. So, let’s zero in on love, the greatest of the gifts. (Gal. 5:22-24). We get it by yielding to the Holy Spirit. (Gal. 5:16).
DO YOU KNOW why we have THE CHRISTIAN WORSHIP HOUR? Because we love! We love the Lord Jesus, and want His name proclaimed throughout the earth—which we are doing every week. We love the lost, those outside of Jesus, we pray for their soul’s salvation and therefore gather year after year sending out the good news. And we love our brothers and sisters who are having a tough time of it. We hear from you all the time so that, in EVERY service, we try to spread hope and encouragement. (Isa. 40:1; Matt. 11:28-30).
You are part of our Team. We cannot do it alone. We need all of you standing by and PRAYING, which is the most important thing you can do. We need your GIFTS, large or small as God leads you. TELL OTHERS, so we can reach more for Christ. THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU, I’ll be looking for you this weekend.
