"A New Song" December 2024
Gifts That Money Cannot Buy
Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:
“Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift.”
II Corinthians 9:15
Christmas is the time for giving gifts. God the Father gave the first gift. I don’t know if the shepherds brought gifts or not, but the Magi sure did, and expensive ones at that. (Matthew 2:11).
From the writings of Pastor Salem:
Now here it is, over 2,000 years later, and at Christmas we still give gifts. I want to mention, “GIFTS THAT MONEY CANNOT BUY”.
v MONEY CANNOT BUY THE GIFT OF TIME. By that I mean, time for one another. This Christmas let’s give more time to our children, our spouse, our friends, our loved ones. Someone who may be lonely and neglected. The gift of time may be the most valuable gift you can give. (Colossians 4:5). Money cannot buy it, and it always fits! (Romans 12:10; Ephesians 6:4).
v MONEY CANNOT BUY THE GIFT OF FORGIVENESS. Have you ever been wronged or hurt? I guess I should say, “Who hasn’t?” When I think of how I have been wronged, I am compelled to think of how awfully Jesus was wronged. Then I can hear Him from the cross say to those who were taking His life, “Father, forgive them” (Luke 23:24) and I know in my heart of hearts, I have to forgive too, because Jesus told me too. (Matthew 6:12). Give forgiveness, money cannot buy it and it always fits! (Matthew 5:22-24).
v MONEY CANNOT BUY THE GIFT OF KINDNESS. Here’s a gift God tells us to give. (Romans 12:10). Be kind and affectionate. Spouses need to do this, parents need to give it to their children, and the children need to give the gift also. The world is rough and tough, we have plenty of that, but kindness is in short supply. If you look about, my guess is that you will find someone who needs a little kindness. Yes, give the gift of kindness, money cannot buy it and it always fits! (I Corinthians 13:4-8).
v MONEY CANNOT BUY THE GIFT OF ENCOURAGEMENT. A long time ago the old prophet Isaiah said, “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary” (Isaiah 50:4). In today’s language it would be, “Cheer people up, buster”. The lonely, the discouraged, the down-hearted, downtrodden, disheartened and hurting. Encouraging the saints is a gift that money cannot buy, and it always fits! (John 16:33; I Peter 4:12,13).
v MONEY CANNOT BUY THE GIFT OF LOVE. You just cannot go to Wal-Mart and buy a can of love. Nor can we store love up in our heart. It is said, “Love isn’t love till you give it away.” Start giving this gift at Christmas and carrying on all year long. Maybe your spouse, your child, a friend, a lonely person who is shut-in or a young person who is shut-out. Let’s be Godlike and give the gift of love, money cannot buy it, and it always fits! (John 13:35; Romans 12:9 (“genuine” in ESV); I Corinthians 13:13).
v MONEY CANNOT BUY THE GIFT OF SALVATION. The apostle Paul tells us that “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23). While salvation is a gift, and is free, it does not mean that it did not cost something. Peter tells us how much our salvation cost when he declares, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold: But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (I Peter 1:18,19). Yes, salvation is a gift money cannot buy, and it always fits! (Romans 10:13).
But do you know what, MONEY CAN BUY RADIO AND TELEVISION TIME! And for that we give you thanks and appreciation in Jesus’ name.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! GOD BLESS YOU!
In our Savior's love,
Pastor Salem

We would like to extend our love and appreciation to all of you this Christmas season. We feel so fortunate to be in your homes each week where we rejoice in our Savior.
This month especially, we remember the birth of our Lord Jesus and the reason He came – to die for our sins and strengthen us in our faith.
May you and your family have a very blessed Christmas and joyous New Year!
