"A New Song" December 2023

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

With December comes Christmas and the giving of gifts.  St. Paul tells us that God gave the first Christmas Gift, stating, “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.”  II Corinthians 9:15.

So, there we have the first Christmas Gift, the Gift of the Son of God!  And, in the giving of that Gift, He gave us many other gifts.

From the writings of Pastor Salem:

v GOD GAVE US THE GIFT OF SALVATION.  We were all in the same boat---poor, lost sinners on the road to hell.  (Romans 3:23).  To make matters worse, there was nothing we could do about it.  Our good works, what few we had of them, were in God’s sight like a pile of dirty old rags! (Isaiah 64:6).  To add to the problem was the fact that we had all rebelled against God and were in the enemy's camp!  (Romans 5:10).  But God, Who is rich in mercy, made a way of escape for us. (Ephesians 2:4-7).  He sent His Son Who became one of us, except without sin, and paid for our sins with His own blood (Hebrews 9:22), rose from the dead, (Matthew 28:6), so that if we call upon His Name we will have salvation.  (Romans 10:13).   That’s one Gift He gave us.

v GOD GAVE US THE GIFT OF JOY.  Well, I guess so!  MARY had joy, God had chosen her to bear the MESSIAH.  Luke says, her “spirit rejoiced in God her Savior.” (Luke 1:46, 47).  JOSEPH obeyed the angel and found joy.  (Matthew 1:24).  The ANGELS rejoiced as they filled the sky with praises.  The SHEPHERDS abandoned their flocks and went rejoicing to Bethlehem in haste.  The MAGI, perhaps a thousand miles away were rejoicing as they gathered their costly gifts and mounted their camels.  And the old prophet, SIMEON, rejoiced as he held the infant.  (Luke 2:25-35).  Shortly thereafter, ANNA, a prophetess, over a hundred years old, rejoiced (Luke 2:36-38).  And now, this year, we are filled with joy over that wonderful gift of salvation!  (II Corinthians 9:15).

v GOD GAVE US THE GIFT OF PEACE.  There was a time when I was very dissatisfied, no rest, no contentment, no peace.  (Isaiah 57:20).  When I accepted His Son as my Savior, God gave me peace at heart.  Jesus said He would give us peace when we came to Him.  (John 14:27).  Because I made peace with God, I found peace with myself and my neighbors.  You can get a lot of things out in this world, but we can only get peace in and through the Savior.  (Philippians 4:6,7).

v GOD GAVE US THE GIFT OF HOPE.  I’ve heard it said, “Where there is life there is hope”, but that is dead wrong, it should be, “Where there is Jesus there is hope”.  As a matter of fact, there is hope only in the Savior.  When God gave us the Gift of His Son, He gave us the hope of heaven and home.  (John 14:6).  The assurance of seeing our loved ones in Christ who have gone on ahead----face to face we will talk with them again and draw them close to us!  You may get a lot of gifts this Christmas, but they will all look like trash in comparison the home God has prepared for those who love Him.  (I Corinthians 2:9).

As I am writing this letter, I am thinking to myself---God gave His Gift to the whole world, and you know what, the CHRISTIAN WORSHIP HOUR is presenting that Gift to the whole world!  You know we preach Christ crucified as the ONLY way of salvation in every sermon!  But, we can’t do it alone nor can you do it alone---as you give and pray and as I preach the best I can, we can, like the angels of old, bring Christ to the World!  Just ask the Lord what He wants you to do and, be it little or large, we will have enough to carry the glorious gift of God to the whole world.  (Philippians 4:19).

God bless you, each one.

                                                             In our Savior’s love,

Pastor Salem

                    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

In 1979, the Christian Worship Hour was ordained by God to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the world through Pastor Harold E. Salem’s weekly broadcasts.  Pastor Salem went to his eternal, heavenly home on December 18, 2020.

You can be assured that we are dedicated to continuing Pastor’s profound desire to tell the world of the saving grace of Jesus Christ and to encourage believers in their faith.  CWH continues broadcasting Pastor Salem’s timeless and relevant messages from God’s word      weekly around the world.

We would like to extend our love and appreciation to all of you this Christmas season.  We feel so

fortunate to be in your homes each week where we rejoice in our Savior.

This month especially, we remember the birth of our Lord Jesus and the reason He came – to die

for our sins and strengthen us in our faith.

May you and your family have a very blessed Christmas and joyous New Year!
