"A New Song" OCTOBER 2016

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

The apostle Peter instructs us,

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that YE SHOULD FOLLOW HIS STEPS.” (I Peter 2:21).

To follow His steps means that we look at special places in the life of our Lord and take lessons from that on how we ought to walk.

  • WE FOLLOW HIS STEPS TO BETHLEHEM AND LEARN HUMILITY
We start our walk where Jesus started His walk on earth. Here He is, the Son of God, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, born in a stable, laid in a manger among the animals He created. No baby on earth was ever born in lower conditions. Our first step in following Jesus is to get off our high horse, humble ourselves, ask forgiveness for our sins, and then humbly serve God and others. (Isaiah 57:15; James 4:10; Phil 2: 5-9; Luke 14:11).
  • WE FOLLOW HIS STEPS TO NAZARETH AND LEARN PATIENCE
Jesus spent thirty silent years in Nazareth. We call them “silent years” because there is not a single word about Jesus except the incident in the temple when He was twelve years old (Luke 2:41-52). If Jesus can wait thirty years, maybe we can wait more than thirty seconds before we get impatient and fidgety, jumpy and jittery! Take an aspirin and carefully read Psalm 27:14. What’s your rush anyway? You can have eternal life! (Psalm 27:14; Psalm 40:1; Gal. 6:9; James 5:7).
  • WE FOLLOW HIS STEPS INTO THE WILDERNESS WHERE WE LEARN ABOUT TEMPTATION
After 30 years, Jesus is baptized in the Jordan River by the desert prophet, John the Baptist Then He goes out into the wilderness and is tempted by the devil. (Matt. 4:1-11). The lesson for us is twofold: The devil tempts everybody; we all know that. But with Jesus’ help, we can be victorious over the devil and his gang of hoodlums. So take heart and carry on! (I Cor. 10:13; I Tim. 6:9-10; Hebrews 4:15; James 1:14).
  • WE FOLLOW HIS STEPS TO GETHESMANE WHERE WE LEARN SUBMISSION TO GOD THE FATHER
Our heart aches when we read about Jesus in the Garden where He bowed to the will of the Father no matter what the cost might be. Jesus prayed, “If it be possible, let this cup pass.” But it was not possible if He was to pay for the sins of the world so Jesus prays “Nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done.” (Luke 22:42). Have you been to Gethsemane? Have I? If we are living for self, we have never been there. Full commitment, full surrender, full submission to the Father—Jesus did it; we need to do it too. And by God’s grace, we can! (Psalm 46:10; Matt. 6:10; II Cor. 12:9; Hebrews 12:6).
  • WE FOLLOW THE STEPS TO CALVARY WHERE WE LEARN TO DIE TO SELF
Jesus paid it all, and there can be no less for any of us if we want to be His disciple. (Luke 9:23). St. Paul said he had “crucified himself” so that the only life he had was given to God. (Gal. 2:20). By God’s grace and our determination, we can do the very same thing! (Matt. 10:38,39; Matt. 23:23; Luke 14:33).
  • WE FOLLOW HIS STEPS TO THE TEMPLE AND LEARN HOW TO GIVE
Don’t forget that giving our tithes is important to God. Jesus went to the temple “and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury.” (Mark 12:41). That day Jesus did not go to the temple to pray, teach, or heal—He went to see how much people put in the offering! Why? Because our giving shows how much we love the Savior. You know what? YOUR love for Jesus makes this ministry possible. Praise God; let’s keep on loving and giving. (Malachi 3:5; Nehemiah 10:32; Matt. 23:23: II Cor. 9:6).

God bless you; I’ll be looking for you this weekend

In our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, Pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

A mother called our office this week with a wonderful praise report. Her son is in prison and she has been sending the New Song newsletter to him. She was thrilled when he called to tell her he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior. She is grateful for the role the New Song played in her son’s salvation and joyfully said, “This is the best Mother’s Day gift I ever received! Thank you Pastor Salem and Christian Worship Hour!”

BEULAH, NORTH DAKOTA

I ask God to come in my life. Now I am on the right road with God. Now truly believe in God, I love God with my heart. Can you send me information on how to start studying the Bible, how to pray to God, Jesus.

ADA, MINNESOTA

Thank you Christian Worship Hour staff and crew and Pastor Salem for all you do for me. Since the passing of both my only children, you have gotten me through and as always our Dear Heavenly Father brought me to you. Bless you always.

ENUMCLAW, WASHINGTON

Jesus is always with us, helping and supporting His believers. That is also what your program does since you are working for Him. Nothing is a crisis when Jesus is in your life.

SUPERIOR, WISCONSIN

I received your Bible and letter. Thank you so much. I am reading my Bible daily and trusting God more and more every day. I am a faithful watcher of your services. On Sunday mornings, I have all the ladies on my cell block watching you with me. Praise God. If you have any words or Bible studies you can help me do, please send them. I am in desperate need of what to study. Love your sister in Christ.

LACROSSE, WISCONSIN

Your ministry continues to be a great blessing to me, and your age helps me to feel there is still hope for me.

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA

Thank you and God bless you for your help in restoring my faith and love of Jesus Christ. I hope you will be doing God’s work for many years to come.

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA

We enjoy your message. Our grandchildren watch you too. They like your message because tho they are young, they understand what you are teaching. God bless you and your staff.

NORTH BRANCH, MINNESOTA

Thank you for continuing to preach the Word without a lot of fan fair. Just plain, pure and to the point and we know the truth will set us free.

GOUVERNEUR, NEW YORK

You have been a guiding star with all your meaningful and uplifting messages. I have been watching your services for many years. I haven’t been able to attend church so you are my God-send. I am one of those lonely ones that you can make smile. I am so thankful for you and your added stories with your sermons. Keep on—-Keeping on! From one “Country Kid” to another “Country Kid”. Thank you Brother Salem. You are a light in a world that doesn’t want God.

CHEYENNE, WYOMING

I’m grateful for your teaching me how to ask Jesus into my life. I realize you weren’t talking to me alone but the way you put it made it seem very personal. So thanks again! I now talk to Jesus every day as He is my personal health counselor and I include our Father God as He provides the divine guidance giving me the peace of mind and reassurance that He is with me always.

LAKESIDE, MONTANA

Thank you very much for being a dedicated disciple. You helped save my life with your true Bible knowledge.

WINNER, SOUTH DAKOTA
