"A New Song" AUGUST 2019

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

The Psalmist had many blessings and joys, but he also had times of trouble and sorrow. In the
42nd Psalm, three times he cries out, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul?” vs. 5,6,11. I am
sure I have said that more than three times. But, how do we overcome discouragement? Let me
mention eight ways that have helped me overcome discouragement.

 READ YOUR BIBLE. Sometimes I do not feel like reading my Bible, well then, read it anyway! Sometimes I find I am reading the dumb newspaper instead of the Bible. No wonder we get in the doldrums when we neglect the Holy Word of God. (Psalm 119:11).

 TALK TO JESUS. How do you feel when people ignore you? Not much fun is it? And yet, how often we neglect our Heavenly Father and never talk to Him unless we need something. Talking to Jesus changes everything from ugly to beautiful. (Psalm 40:3).

 THANK GOD FOR BLESSINGS. Well, you say, I don’t have many. O yeah, count your spiritual blessings that are eternal, and you’ll become so busy you will forget about your discouragement. Jeremiah said it long ago, “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22,23). That is, every day, we have a ton of new blessings from God for which we ought to give thanks.

 CLAIM THE PROMISES OF GOD. That is, just believe what God tells you in His Word, the Bible. Every promise in the Book is secure–heaven and earth will pass away–but not one promise of God will ever fail! Two promises I love, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5). And “We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).

 TRY TO HELP SOMEONE. That is, get your eyes off of yourself. Don’t have a “pity party”! Do something, in Jesus Name, to help somebody with their load. You know what, there is always someone in a worse condition than you. Look around and try to cheer someone who is bearing a heavy load. Your next door neighbor may have a breaking heart! (Psalm 142:4).

 FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS. As long as Peter had his eyes fixed on Jesus, he walked on water! When he looked at the wind and waves, he began to sink. Have you ever done that? I have. When I look at the tough things staring at me, and don’t keep my eyes on Jesus, I have problems. Keep Jesus in view and you will never be blue. (Psalm 42:11).

 TRUST IN GOD. The Psalmist put it this way, “Hope thou in God.” (Psalm 42:11). You know, every time I trust in myself—my wisdom, my strength, my ability—I get down in the mouth. I know in my heart that I need someone else to help me, and that is the dear Lord Jesus. He said He would help us, so take Him at His Word! (Phil. 4:13).

 KEEP THE BIG PICTURE IN MIND. That is, when I get discouraged, I just get my mind on the Great God in heaven, who is my Father because I have received His Son into my heart and life. I know that my God is going to have the last word and when the curtain comes down on the last act, it will be God on His Throne and all the world under His feet! (Philippians 2:11).

Isn’t that good news? And yet, there are multitudes who do not know Jesus, His forgiveness and help. So, what do we do about it? We proclaim it all over the world with the CHRISTIAN WORSHIP HOUR. And that is where you come in. To carry on this ministry, we need your PRAYERS, your GIFTS, and your TELLING OTHERS.

God bless you. I’ll be watching for you this weekend!
In our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, Pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
I love the Lord Jesus Christ and you keep teaching me more. I thank God for honest, down to earth ministers for that’s what I’ve known all my life. I’ve made more mistakes then many other people and again, thank God for his forgiveness. I had a boyfriend when I was 15. My dad sent him a running. He wanted to be a minister. I said, I’m not ministers wife material and sent a “Dear John” to him. After many years of marriage, his wife died and he called. We live 300 miles apart but have a daily relationship most couples would envy. It has been more than a joy. His life is threatened at 89. We lean heavily on each other. The joy of the Lord is my strength.
VIBORG, SOUTH DAKOTA

I just finished watching the film “Heart of a Shepherd”. It is a very inspiring story and one that has a powerful message of hope. Holding fast to my faith. Keep preaching!
BILLINGS, MONTANA

Our hotel happened to have your program on the T.V.in the lobby breakfast area! It blessed me so much as I heard you share God’s Word regarding salvation in Jesus and even His Second Coming.
MINNETONKA, MINNESOTA

We praise the Lord for your long life and beautiful ministry. My husband and I agreed to keep sending contributions as long as the Lord sustained you. He finished the race that was set before him on April 4th. He had prepared himself for that day for most of his life so it was a joyous fulfillment when he met his Savior face to face. I am happy for him and will see him again. With love, joy and gratitude to Jesus for you!
TAMPA, FLORIDA

I enjoy listening to the worship hour every Sunday before I go to church. I am 88 years old so I can identify with Pastor Salem. I was saved when I was 27 years old, working in a sawmill. A friend invited me to his church and I got saved. I have sinned many, many times but the Holy Spirit keeps pulling me out of it and applying the cleansing blood and pulling me back to His grace. He is a wonderful Savior. Keep on preaching Jesus.
PORTLAND, OREGON

I am sending you a little money because you asked for it and that you are cleaner than a hound’s tooth. Something that my dad’s generation would say. See you in heaven. Oh by the way, your program answers all my daily thoughts. Thank you for your work. Best regards.
EAGLE, NEBRASKA

On one of your most recent mailings, you mentioned broadcasts of your services are going to Africa among other countries. My son, Mark who died in 2010, had dreams of going to Africa as a missionary. It is a great comfort to know that maybe my donations (though small) helps in some way to take God’s salvation plan to Africa. While Mark was never able to go, they, through your faithful service, are hearing God’s Good News. Thank you.
WINCHESTER, CALIFORNIA

Keep sharing God’s Word! I’m only turning 70 and you are like a spiritual father to me. It means more to me than you know when you say The Christian Worship Hour (special people) loves us and you also remind us you love us. Have a great day, week, month, year etc. Your spiritual daughter.
THERMOPOLIS, WYOMING

We love your services and have been listening to you for many years. Thanks for all you do and your dedication to the Lord. We all believe in the Lord and your excellent teachings. You make it easy for us to understand. Bless you.
DULUTH, MINNESOTA

Thank you for being here for the whole world. Satan seems to be especially busy right now.
MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA
