"A New Song" DECEMBER 2018

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

“Thou shalt call his name JESUS; for he shall save
his people from their sins”. Matthew 1:21

 THERE IS WONDER IN THE CHRISTMAS STORY. My first recollection in life is my sweet Mother reading a story from the Holy Bible every night. As a 5 or 6-year-old, I was filled with wonder as she read the story—and now, as a 97-year-old, I am still filled with wonder as I read it. A Baby born in a stable, with the angels, the shepherds, the glowing skies and an angel preaching! No wonder we wonder at such a grand story. (Luke 2: 8-14).

 THERE IS MYSTERY IN THE CHRISTMAS STORY. A holy mystery that fascinates me as an old, old man as it did to me as a little child. How could the God of the universe fit into a tiny baby! (II Cor. 5:19; I Tim. 3:16). And how can this Child be the seed of a woman when all of mankind is the seed of a man? (Gen 3:15; Isaiah 7:14). Yes, the virgin birth of our Lord is a mystery. And the magi, why did they come and give gold and other expensive gifts? (Matt. 2:11). And, oh yes, what about that moving star that came and shone over Bethlehem! (Matt. 2:9). Mystery, well I guess so!

 THERE IS A BEAUTY IN THE CHRISTMAS STORY. There is a beauty in the innocent Mary who wonders how she can have a child without a husband. (Luke 1:34). Joseph is beautiful in keeping watch over Mary though he knew he was not the father of her child. (Matt. 1:25). And old Simeon, holding the 8-day-old Child and praising God. (Luke 2:25-35). And, oh yes, the ancient prophetess Anna, praising God for the redemption this Child would bring to this world. But the most beautiful person there was the Christ Child, who came to save us from our sin. (Matt. 1:21).

 THERE IS LOVE IN THE CHRISTMAS STORY. Love is all over the place. We see the Heavenly Father’s Love for a lost world in the gift of His Son. (John 3:16). Let’s not forget for a moment, God would not have had to do it! And besides that, we were His enemies, St. Paul tells us. (Romans 5:10). How much love does that call for? And Joseph loved Mary, no matter what the gossips said about her being pregnant outside of marriage. (Matt. 1:20). And Mary loved her firstborn and would cry her eyes out when she saw Him crucified! (John 19:25). Love, well I guess so, a love that would take the whole world in, if they only would receive Him. (John 1:12; II Peter 3:9).

 THERE IS HOPE IN THE CHRISTMAS STORY. I have preached for over 74 years—-I love to preach because I can offer hope to anyone who will believe and receive Jesus into their heart. (Rev. 3:20). No one is hopeless, there is no such thing anymore as an unpardonable sin! Jesus said “whosoever will may come”, (John 6:37). So you can come, if you want to. Just tell Jesus you are a sinner and ask Him to come into your heart and save you from your sins. (John 5:24). Then live for Him the best you can! Your condition may seem to you to be hopeless, but not so to the Savior. (Heb. 7:25; I Tim. 1:15).

Yes, the Christmas Story. We tell it all the time! We go by television and short wave radio and tell the Christmas Story to all the world!

But we can only go so far and so long as you pray and give. Maybe you can’t give much, maybe you can give a fortune, just ask God what he wants you to give. I do pray you will have a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR in our Lord. This may be the year He will come; I do not know—–I only know we are to labor in the vineyard until He comes. (Acts 1:6-9).

I’ll be looking for you this weekend!

In Our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
We look forward to watching you every Sunday. I love how you use the Bible as a compass to guide your flock. Thank you. Would you say a prayer for my wife please? P.S. Would you please send us “Heart of a Shepherd”? Thank you. We love you.
WEISER, IDAHO

I feel bad because I don’t recall the date that I accepted Christ as my Savior. Does it mean that I’m not saved?
LIMA, PERU

Will you please send me another “Heart of a Shepherd” as my pastor would like to have one for the church to use.
SAINT JOSEPH, MINNESOTA

Thank you dear brother for your good words. Since I have found your program on Saturday late afternoon, I am not as lonely. I look forward to your good teaching. God bless you in our Father’s Holy Name.
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY

I still follow you on TV and the internet. Thanks to you, through Jesus Christ I was re-born!!! All my love and prayers!
HAMILTON, MONTANA

I would love to have the brochure “Watch me Grow”. I work for a Pregnancy Care Center and I wanted to see what your brochure says about abortion. Thanks
EARLY, TEXAS

Dear Pastor Salem, I also remember repeating a word my father said to my mother and she took a bar of that old time soap and put it in my mouth and I remember it took a long time getting that taste out of my mouth. (It was terrible).
ODESSA, WASHINGTON

I asked Jesus into my heart. I have asked for forgiveness of my sins. Love to all.
SIOUX CITY, IOWA

I’m thinking of the nautical term today “steady as she goes” and feel that is how you are helping me in my faith now that I’ve had a small stroke at age 82, homebound with chronic pain disease and needing the “fellowship of the saints”. I look forward to 9 a.m. Sunday like a lighthouse on my journey.
BILLINGS, MONTANA

Telephone gift and order for “Heart of a Shepherd” and CD sermon.
TAURANGA, NEW ZEALAND

I am sending this seed-gift to support the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There are many countries in the West Indies. If you do not use the above address, the reply will be sent to another island of the Caribbean. One such letter was mis-sent to Jamaica.
TRINDAD AND TOBAGO, WEST INDIES

Maybe our race is about over till we cross the finish line. We have to keep going. Remember in a horse race the horse gives it all he’s got at the end.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO

Thank you for telling me how to bring Jesus to me. I’m a better person now not perfect but better. Ha. Please say a prayer for my wife. She has lung cancer. Thank you.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
