"A New Song" JUNE 2017

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

The Psalmist had many blessing and joys, but he also had times of trouble and sorrow. In the 42nd Psalm, three times he cries out, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul?” vs. 5,6,11. I am sure I have said that more than three times. But, how do we overcome discouragement? Let me mention eight ways:

 READ YOUR BIBLE. Sometimes I do not feel like reading my Bible, well then, read it anyway! Sometimes I find I am reading the dumb newspaper instead of the Bible. No wonder we get in the doldrums when we neglect the Holy Word of God. (Psalm 119:11).
 TALK TO JESUS. How do you feel when people ignore you? Not much fun is it? And yet, how often we neglect our Heavenly Father and never talk to Him unless we need something. Talking to Jesus changes everything from black to beautiful. (Psalm 40:3).
 THANK GOD FOR BLESSINGS. Well, you say, I don’t have many. O yeah, count your spiritual blessings that are eternal, and you’ll become so busy you will forget about your discouragement. Jeremiah said it long ago, “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22, 23). That is, every day we have a ton of new blessings from God for which to give thanks. (Psalm 107:31; James 1:17; I Thess. 5:18).
 CLAIM THE PROMISES OF GOD. That is, just believe what God tells you in His Word, the Bible. Every promise in the Book is secure—heaven and earth will pass away—but not one promise of God will ever fail! Two promises I love, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5), and “We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).
 TRY TO HELP SOMEONE. That is, get your eyes off of yourself. Don’t have a ‘pity party’! Do something in Jesus Name, to help somebody with their load. You know what, there is always someone in a worse condition than you. Look around and try to cheer someone who is bearing a heavy load. Your next door neighbor may have a breaking heart! (Psalm 142:4; Matthew 10:8; I Cor. 9:19; Jude 23).
 FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS. As long as Peter had his eyes fixed on Jesus, he walked on water! When he looked at the wind and the waves, he began to sink. Have you ever done that? I have. When I look at the tough things staring at me, and don’t keep my eyes on Jesus, I have problems. Keep Jesus in view and you will never be blue. (Psalm 121:1,2).
 TRUST IN GOD. The Psalmist put it this way, “Hope thou in God.” (Psalm 42:11). You know, every time I trust in myself—my wisdom, my strength, my ability—I get down in the mouth. I know in my heart that I need someone else to help me, and that is the dear Lord Jesus. He said He would help us, so take Him at His Word. (Philippians 4:13).
 KEEP THE BIG PICTURE IN MIND. That is, when I get discouraged, I just get my mind on the great God in heaven, who is my Father because I have received His Son into my heart and life. I know that my God is going to have the last word and when the curtain comes down on the last act, it will be God on His throne and all the world under His feet! (Philippians 2:11; Hebrews 12:2; II Timothy 1:12).
Isn’t that good news? And yet, there are multitudes who do not know Jesus, His forgiveness and help. So, what do we do about it? We proclaim it over the world with the CHRISTIAN WORSHIP HOUR. And that is where you come in. To carry on this ministry we need your PRAYERS, your GIFTS, and your TELLING OTHERS.

May I remind you the ONLY source of income we have is what God’s people send in. And you know what, when we started this ministry 39 years ago I promised God I would never beg for money on the worship service. I can only tell you, and leave it up to you and the Holy Spirit. God has never failed!

God bless you. I’ll be watching for you this weekend.

In Our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
I believe Pastor Salem was a sheepherder in his younger years to prepare him for his work later on when the sheepherder became a shepherd which puts him in good company. Thanks for all you do. May God spread your voices to the end of the earth.
HAMILTON, MONTANA

Since I have been tuning in and have committed my life to Christ, I feel like I am growing stronger spiritually. Thank you for your service.
MORTON, ILLINOIS

I was raised by wonderful loving Christian parents. However, I was a little confused by what it meant to be “saved”. You have made it so clear to me that I simply have to invite Jesus into my heart confess my sins, and sincerely ask for forgiveness. I know I still sin every day but I no longer worry that I won’t go to heaven. Thank you again for your easy to understand sermons.
LARIMORE, NORTH DAKOTA

I tune you in every Sunday morning. You bring something to me almost every time to help me. This Sunday you read a letter from a lady dying with cancer. She thanked cancer for bringing Jesus to her. My wife has terminal lung cancer. I have been very upset and angry this is happening to her. She has been a good person all of her life. I sat there and thought about what you read about the lady thanking cancer and my anger has gone away. God bless you.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA

Thank you for being our guide to heaven’s gates. Praise the Lord!
SAINT JOSEPH, MISSOURI

I live in my wheel chair. I am about 97 and praying for God’s care at this nursing home. I am so thankful for your encouraging services and love you all.
WHAPETON, NORTH DAKOTA

Your preaching is not only old-time but forever time. People need to hear about the importance of our eternal life with or without Jesus now more than ever!
TUCSON, ARIZONA

I thank you so much for this special hour. I get to praise the Lord with you and all the great Christians who work with you to bring God’s Word to all. Bless you. I am a 64 year old woman who is too sick to go out to my own church for the past five or so years on and off. I will be with you if I cannot attend my own church.
WASILLA, ALASKA

This is an expression of thanksgiving to our wonderful Lord Jesus who made it possible for me to know Him more through the Bible ministry of Christian Worship Hour.
HOUSTON, TEXAS

I have been married twice, my first husband died at the age of 40. I remarried. But I still love my first husband more. Does this mean I will see him first in heaven someday?
CAMBRIDGE, MAINE

Please send my brother A New Song. He has asked Jesus into his heart. He is in hospice and I want him to have a New Song. Sincerely with love.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO

Many times I know how unworthy I am to be able to go to heaven but I try to remember it’s not how we feel it’s because of our loving Savior’s blood and resurrection. Your sermons, because of the Holy Spirit, have helped me time and time again.
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

I am in Round Up, Montana in jail. I am a backslidden Christian. I have accepted Jesus into my heart and have repented of my sinful ways! I am once again right with God today! I watched your show this morning and was very blessed. My mom has watched you for years. She is in Hamilton, Montana this morning and as I watched I am not only felt a closeness with God but with my mother. Thank you so much and God bless you and your service!!!.
ROUND UP, MONTANA

Memorials

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
