"A New Song" NOVEMBER 2017

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

November is the month in which we celebrate Thanksgiving, a day set aside to express our thanks
to God for His many blessings, both spiritual and material. Really, it ought not be one day, or
even one month—but an everyday occurrence. (I Thess. 5:18).

There are a million and one reasons we should give thanks. Let me briefly mention five of them.

 WE OUGHT TO GIVE THANKS BECAUSE GOD HAS NOT TREATED US AS WE DESERVE. God utterly hates sin. There will not be one speck of sin in heaven. Yet, look at us. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Rom.3:23). “There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Rom. 3:10). God says, “There is not a just man upon earth that doeth good and sinneth not.” (Ecc. 7:20). So you know what every last one of us had coming? Hell. Pure and simple. God has warned us, “the soul that sinneth, it shall die”. (Eze. 18:4). That is, we die physically and spiritually. Yes, we ought to give thanks that God didn’t treat us as we deserve. (Psalm 103: 11-13; Romans 5:20).
 WE OUGHT TO GIVE THANKS THAT GOD HAS DEALT WITH US IN LOVE. The gods of the heathen always dealt in anger and vengeance, but the God of Israel dealt with us in love, unbelievable love. Just think, when we were His enemies, He died for our sins. (Romans 5:6, 8, 10). Think of John 3:16. “God so loved the world”, how much did He love fallen, sinful man? So much that the Father gave all He had in the gift of His Son on a cruel Roman cross, dying for our sins! (I John 4:7-11).
 WE OUGHT TO GIVE THANKS BECAUSE IT IS THE MARK OF GOOD MANNERS. We teach our little ones to say, “thank you”, it is just good training. When we see someone just gobble up his food and never so much as thank God, we know he hasn’t had good training at home. Jesus expects us to say, “thank you”. Remember the ten lepers with only one who gave thanks, and Jesus said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?”. (Luke 17:17,18). As a matter-of-fact, unthankfulness is a mark of the wicked! (Rom. 1:21). It is also a mark of stupidity. A farmer once told me, “I don’t need rain, I have irrigation.” I wonder if he had his own sun for the sunshine crops need. Unthankfulness means a man has some parts missing! (I Chron. 29:13, Ps, 118:28,29).
 WE OUGHT TO GIVE THANKS BECAUSE IT HELPS OTHERS. When we express thanks to those who bless and help us, it helps and encourages them. If we want to do a good deed, we need to be thankful, appreciative people. The world is full of downhearted souls who know not our Lord and have no hope in this world or the next. If they see someone who is thankful and praising God, it will cheer their soul and help them to come to know the same dear Lord that we know and love. By our lives we can bring others to a saving knowledge of Jesus. (Matt. 5:16).
 WE OUGHT TO GIVE THANKS BECAUSE IT WILL GIVE US THE RIGHT OUTLOOK ON LIFE. There are two kinds of people running around the country side—those who are happy, joyful people and those who look like 7 days rain. No matter what happens, they are gloomy Guses. When we are thankful people, we have the right attitude, and the world takes on a new and better hue. Two little boys each owned a bee; one got honey and one got stung. The first boy called his bee a honey bee; the second called his a stinging bee. Get right with god and the whole world changes! (Psalm 121).
WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD FOR YOU! We are trying to win the whole world to Christ and it takes all of us together to do it. Singing, preaching, playing, giving, praying, telling others, standing together. Our ministry is totally dependent on those of you who love the love the Lord and partner with us. We are not under written by any organization, denomination or corporation. It is God’s people alone.
So, thanks for standing by. We’ll talk it over, over there!
In Our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, pastor

SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS

I’ve accepted Jesus into my heart when I was only 5 years old. I’m 53 years old now and have a bad left hip and don’t have a car so your program is my church! Thank you so much for your ministry. In Christ’s love.
SIOUX CITY, IOWA

So happy to know I’m not alone. I can talk to Jesus anytime. It is scary when you are alone and lonely.
KALKASKA, MICHIGAN

At 94, you are my life-line to Jesus. Thank you and your staff.
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

I appreciate the time you put into the “New Song”, very uplifting with the Word of the Lord! Being a retired banker, I support you because your ministry is accountable in the finances (ECFA) etc. Your brother in Christ.
CENTERVILLE, SOUTH DAKOTA

You are my life line every week. I get to thinking I’m so useless at my age and I hear you and know God loves me no matter how old we are—–and loves us even when we can’t do what I’d like to do for others less lucky than me.
HOISINGTON, KANSAS

Dear Christian Worship Hour. Thank you for the wonderful sermon on Elijah and Elisha, the prophets.
(2 Kings) Love, (Young lady 17 years old).
ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Just wanted to say, “keep up the good work for many years to come”. Just keep on that “Book”, the “Word” is the only thing that can save this country! I got a lot of fish in the net now “after much pain”, so we need you now “to bring em on home”. Keep up the passion!
MANCHESTER, MARYLAND

Our 7-week old granddaughter was visiting and of course we were watching the show. She listened and watched intensely for the first 15 minutes. Then she gave out a cry that would have curled your hair. Well she wouldn’t stop, so I turned up the volume. The louder you talked, the louder she cried. Don’t get discouraged, pastor. She just wanted her bottle. She’ll be listening again. So keep on keeping on.
ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS
