"A New Song" NOVEMBER 2019

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

I don’t know about you, but November always brings before me the thought of being thankful to God. St. Paul
talked a lot about being thankful. He writes:

“We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of
hope, in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.” I Thess. 1:2,3

Notice what the apostle tells us:
 THANKFULNESS SHOULD BE SHARED WITH OTHERS. “For you all”. Who likes a sourpuss, down in the mouth, looking like someone baptized in dill pickle juice?! God knows we have enough sorrow and grief—so cheer those about us by giving thanks. (Philippians 1:3).
 THANKFULNESS IS A TESTIMONY OF GOD’S GREAT CARE. “He careth for you,” is a truth we all rejoice in. (Hebrews 13:5). When we are thankful, happy people, it will show the world around us that we love God, trust God, and are thankful for His care. (Psalm 23:4).
 THANKFULNESS WILL BRING GLORY TO GOD. “Give thanks to God”. It is no honor to God’s Name when we fume, fuss, worry and fret. When we do that we are letting the world know that we do not trust God! And that is a disgrace to Him. When we give thanks in the middle of some storm of life, it shows that we really believe what we say, that is, that our Heavenly Father watches over us. (Psalm 59:16).
 THANKFULNESS SHOULD BE CONTINUAL. “Give thanks to God always”. Did you notice that, “ALWAYS”. Even when the stock market crashes and many people lose their life’s savings? Even when a loved one is taken away? Even then? Yes, even then. Give thanks because our Father in Heaven loves us, and while some of the earthly things that are taken, our salvation and home in heaven is not taken. Love God, trust God, give thanks and read Romans 8:28. (I Thess. 5:18).
 THANKFULNESS SHOULD BE FOR THOSE AROUND US. “For you all”. We just saw our first statement that we should be thankful before everyone as a witness of God’s grace and goodness. Now, Paul is telling us to be thankful for the people themselves! I’ve been around long enough (98 1/2 years) to know that there are some people who are not very loveable! (I like to loan them money then I never see them again). But God wants us to be thankful for them–maybe we can be thankful for them–maybe we can be thankful that there are just a few of this kind running around! (Gal. 3:28).
 THANKFULNESS SHOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY PRAYER. “In our prayers”. I think that means we should not just say a flippant “thanks God” as we rush out the door going to work, or whatever. I think God means, “Get alone, talk with Me, let Me talk to you—thank Me in a quiet, reverent, meaningful way.” Shut out the noise of the world about us, and listen for that still, small voice! (I Kings 19:12). We have time for everybody else, why not time for God?
 THANKFULNESS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO GOD. “Thanks to God”. If anything irks me, it is some Christian being thankful for their “good luck”. I wonder what God thinks when He blesses us and we thank lady luck for the blessing. Just remember, anything good in our life, comes from God! Satan never did a good thing in all of his lousy, contemptible existence so leave him and lady luck out of the picture, and—all eyes on God. (Psalm 148:5).
 THANKFULNESS SHOULD BE FOR SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS. “Patience of hope”. Thank God for things eternal, spiritual, abiding. Thank Him for the salvation and a home reserved in Heaven right beside our loved ones waiting for us! (John 14:1-6).
 WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU. “How beautiful to see God at work through His people. We, as a team, are doing our best and I am convinced that multitudes of you dear folk are doing your best through prayers, gifts, and telling others. I can hardly wait to get to heaven to thank you. But the BIG THANKS will come from Jesus! (Matt. 25:23).

God bless you. I’ll be looking for you this weekend.

In our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, Pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
I want you to know that on August 19th, I will be celebrating the 49th anniversary of my motorcycle accident that left me a quadriplegic paralyzed from the shoulders down. The promises of God have helped me grasp that my “accident” was not an accident, but God’s will for me in Christ Jesus, the Grace of God in Hebrews, and that my present sufferings are light and momentary and are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to me in heaven.
ROGERS, MINNESOTA

I am a retired farmer and have a bale counter from a hay baler from days gone by that I use to count how many times Pastor Salem uses the name of Jesus. Wow! I don’t know of another minister of ministry where we hear Jesus’ name mentioned so many times. We can’t use His name enough. Jesus said, “And I, if am lifted up from the earth, we will draw all peoples to Myself.” (John 12:32). Just to let you know how you are doing—on Sunday you mentioned Jesus’s name 94 times and another Sunday 104 times. Good job! We plan to have some friends over for a movie night to watch “The Heart of Shepherd”. What a story and tool to reach hearts for Jesus! Well, that’s about it for now. We will be watching, praying, counting and supporting.
MOUNTAIN HOME, ARIZONA

I am 81 years old, not too many friends or family left. I lost my husband some time ago and lost 3 of my precious sons due to illness’s, cancer, M.S.A. and a drunk driver killed one head on collision in 1976. I miss them all so very much but I’m at peace knowing they are with Jesus. Safe in His loving arms. I know we will all be together again soon. I will see the face of Jesus and my precious ones. Thanks be to God! Praying for you, your sister in Christ.
DEQUINCY, IOWA

I have been watching your show for about a year. I love your sermons. I have said the prayer to ask Jesus into my heart and forgive me of my sins. I live alone. My mother and father are gone. God bless you and keep up the good work. Please send me the Bible study “The New Song”. I am sending a donation, more to come. God bless!
MADRID, IOWA

I want to share the DVD with the other members of the church that we attend so that those who have not already given their hearts to JESUS may be moved by the Holy Spirit to do just that. Praise the Lord!
SHEYENNE, NORTH DAKOTA

I prayed the salvation prayer. Accepted Christ as my Savior.
LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA (E-mail)

I was diagnosed with cancer and had one kidney removed. My daughter was murdered by a 17-year-old along with her cousin. I have tried very hard to deal with both things. The doctors said I cannot work anymore. I need prayers for Jesus’s healing. If it wasn’t for my belief in Jesus, I wouldn’t get through this. Jesus is the answer to everything. God bless you in your work. My wife and I have learned to depend on Jesus for all our needs. God bless you and your staff
BROWNING, MONTANA

I gave both of my sons the “Heart of a Shepherd” for their birthdays in hopes they would share them with their families. My oldest son who has three sons, all under the age of 10, said they all sat perfectly still through the whole DVD. We have watched this video many times. It is wonderful for all ages. God bless you and your ministry.
MAURICE, IOWA

I have to say thank you again for all your sermons which come straight from the Bible. May you and your staff have a long time yet, God willing. You have been a God-send to me. PS. I keep forgetting to say how much we enjoy “Heart of a Shepherd”.
LEBANON, MISSOURI

Memorials

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
(Revelation 14:13)
