"A New Song" September 2020

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

I happened to read a verse the other day where St. John declared:

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and

honor and power; for thou hast created all things,

and FOR THY PLEASURE THEY WERE CREATED.”

Rev. 4:11

The apostle tells us here that we ought to always please God.  But how do we do that?  I thought of at least

five ways:

  • WE PLEASE GOD BY HEARTY REPENTANCE. That is, we have great sorrow because of our sins against God, and others.  As a consequence of that sorrow, we have a determination to forsake all known sin in our life.  The New Testament word in the Greek language, translated, “repent” means “to change one’s mind”.  Thus, when we see the awful sin in the world, we must turn from the ways of the world (I John 2:15).  Above all, we must repent our sins for, without such repentance, there is no salvation—that is, God calls on us to repent, then be saved.  (Acts 3:19).
  • WE PLEASE GOD WHEN WE ACCEPT JESUS AS OUR SAVIOR. God gave us a gift when He gave His only Begotten Son to die for us on a cruel Roman cross.  (John 3:16). When we refuse to receive Jesus as our Savior, we are rejecting the One Person God loves above all others—His own dear Son.  However, when we throw open our heart and ask Jesus to enter, it pleases God!  (Rev. 3:20).  On the other hand, God shows great displeasure at those who reject His Son.  (John 3:18).
  • WE PLEASE GOD WHEN WE LOVE HIM. God made that plain in His very first Commandment, “You shall love the Lord your God” (Deut. 6:5).  So, it follows, God loves us, is pleased with us, when we keep His commandments.  Love is not something that originates from our emotions, it originates from our will—that is, we make up our mind to love our God (and our neighbor) and from that will we see love result.  God is always pleased when we love Him, and show it in our daily living.
  • WE PLEASE GOD WHEN WE WITNESS FOR HIM. That is, when we let others know that we love Jesus, especially before the unsaved, those who do not know Jesus, or may even hate Jesus, then it is we who need to go on record as loving Jesus and openly confessing Him before others.  Jesus told us that if we are ashamed of Him, He would be ashamed of us.  I don’t want that to happen to me.  (Matthew 10:32,33).
  • WE PLEASE GOD WHEN WE CHEERFULLY ACCEPT HIS WILL. God has a detailed plan for every one of us, even before we are born!  (Jeremiah 1:5).  When we grump about things in life, we are going against God’s will—on the other side, when we rejoice in the events of life, even though it be a nursing home, we please God.  Paul said he was happy whatever he was, so we must be that way also.  (Phil. 4:11).

And you know something else?  When we please God, we find a wonderful joy and peace in our heart, no matter where we are or what the circumstances may be!  (John 10:10).  It is so wonderful to be able to go to sleep at night and know we are pleasing the kind Heavenly Father, a Father Who loves us so much He has His Son to die a terrible death on the cross.  A Father Who watches over us and never leaves or forsakes us.  (Hebrews 13:5).  A Father Who is, someday, going to come for us and take us home!  Home at last!  (John 14:3).

Friend, be sure you have confessed your sins to Jesus, have promised to forsake any known sin, and asked Him personally to come into your heart and life.  (John 1:12, John 5:24).

Thanks again for your gifts and prayers for our ministry—I say “our” because we are all a part of His wonderful team in bringing the “Christian Worship Hour” to a lost world.

God bless you.  I’ll be watching for you this week.

In our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, Pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…

Hello from Costa Rica, We are comforted knowing that despite whatever happens in the world during these challenging times of uncertainty, like the wonderful song says “Because He Lives, I can face tomorrow”.  Continue the amazing work in the Lord.  We’re in Tremor Season always and even that doesn’t change our comfort.

SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA

I’m a 93-year-old truck driver.  I’m so thankful you came into my life.  How can I thank you?

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

I get up early so I can watch your service at 5:00 am.  Eastern Standard Time.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY

Every Sunday I tune into your service. Your preaching moves me and God gets all the glory!  I can’t tell you how much of a blessing you are.  Thank you.

RAEFORD, NORTH CAROLINA

My 4-year-old granddaughter recently learned that Jesus loves her and that Jesus died on the cross for her sins.   I believe she understands the gospel and is saved.

CAMDENTON, MISSOURI

You are what young folks need!  No honey coated, all’s well sermons but, rather like it is.  Lost without Jesus.  I have told many of my friends about you so they will financially help you to keep on keeping on!  Praise the Lord!

PLEASANT VALLEY, MISSOURI

My wife and I love watching your message every Sunday.  My 11-year-old grandson enjoys you as well.  Some Sunday mornings I’ll go pick him up and bring him to our house and we watch you together.  He has at times listened to you on his computer.  Thank you for your service to mankind.  God bless you.

COLUMBUS, NEBRASKA

I enjoy watching you on Sunday mornings.  Your message is very helpful and encouraging to me in these terribly, troubled times.

HOUSTON, TEXAS

Your program was a blessing for mom who was unable to get out.  We would get dressed for church and have tea while we heard the Lord’s Words.  Mom was a woman of faith and a great example.  “God bless” you and your programming for spreading the Word!

SIBLEY, IOWA

We watch you now every Sunday.  We are Lutheran and we appreciate you preaching the gospel.  You do a great job at your age and always makes us laugh.  Thank you for what you do for all Christians and non-Christians.  We are glad to help you with your ministry.

SMITHVILLE, MISSOURI

Good Morning.  I hope you’re having a good day.  May the Grace of God be with you.

BEECHWOOD, VICTORIA AUSTRALIA

God bless you and your team of Christian Witnesses for your service each Sunday morning.  I’m unable to attend my church on Sunday mornings so you have been my Church for several years now as I’m 102 plus-years-old.  Thank you for your ministry.  God bless you each one.  OLD Dorcas Youel.

DELL RAPIDS, SOUTH DAKOTA

Memorials

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
