"A New Song" AUGUST 2018

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

God assures us that,
“When thou passest through waters, I WILL BE WITH THEE.
When thou walkest through the fire, thou shall not be burned.” Isaiah 43:2

During our life, at one time or another, we have all gone through the fire and the flood. Perhaps some of you are in it right now. But God has a reason and purpose for every one of them. Let’s look at 5 of those reasons.

 HE LEADS US THROUGH THE FIRE AND THE FLOOD TO STRENGTHEN OUR FAITH. Faith is all important. It is the door to salvation, we are saved by faith in the Savior, nothing more, nothing less. (Rom. 4:5). Faith is so important that we cannot please God if we do not have that faith in Him. (Heb. 11:6). Thus we start our Christian life. So the floods and the fires teach us to trust, to grow in faith! Job said that, because of his trails his faith would be like pure gold! (Job 13:10; Isaiah 58:11; Hebrews 12:2).

 GOD LEADS US THROUGH THE FIRE AND THE FLOOD TO TEST OUR OBEDIENCE. Look at Daniel, God commanded him to not worship an idol and his obedience to God put him in a lion’s den—–but Daniel obeyed even though it seemed he would have to die doing it. And, oh yes, the ordeal on Mt. Moriah! (Gen. 22:2). Talk about fires and floods, Abraham went through it all, but he was obedient. St. Paul stood before King Agrippa and declared, “I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,” even though it eventually cost him his life. (Matthew 4:19,20; Acts 26:19; Ephesians 5:8),

 GOD LEADS US THROUGH THE FIRE AND FLOOD TO TEACH US PATIENCE. Are you ever impatient? Don’t ask me that question. We live in a society that is constantly on the go, and a fast ‘go’ at that. And where are we going, and what do we do when we get there? St. Paul told us to live our life with patience and not get in a dither over anything. (Rom 12:1). The Psalmist told us 3,000 years ago to “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. (Ps. 27:14). Maybe you are in the middle of a mess so that God can teach you patience. (II Peter 1:6; Psalm 46:10; Psalm 103:13).

 GOD LEADS US THROUGH THE FIRE AND THE FLOOD TO KEEP US HUMBLE. When things fall apart, when the flood overwhelms us, we quickly learn that we are not as great and mighty as we had supposed. It is easy to become proud, so God sends the fire and the flood to bring us to our senses, settle us down, and make us humble so He can use us! (Prov. 16:18; James 4:6). Search the Bible, you will never find a single place where God used a proud person. Thank God He humbles us. (Psalm 90:12).

 GOD LEADS US THROUGH THE FIRE AND THE FLOOD TO INCREASE OUR LOVE FOR HIM. Peter went through the fire and the flood, it was his own making, but it was real. Out of that bitter experience Jesus asked him three times, if he loved Him. Peter’s love was growing. Our love can become lukewarm, in a marriage or with our Lord. That was God’s complaint about the church of Laodicea. (Rev. 3:15). And don’t forget Job who not only went through the fire and flood but death and destruction and out of it all was a deepening love for God; God may let him die but Job is going to love Him. (Job 13:15; I Peter 5:7).

Friend, are you in the fire and the flood today? If so, take heart. God knows all about it and will only bring good out of it, just trust Him. Romans encourages us on this journey called life. But we need your help in continuing this ministry. We need your PRAYERS, and your GIFTS, no matter if they are large or small, and we need your GOOD WILL as you tell others about our ministry. God bless you! (II Cor. 6:1).

See you next week. Lord willing.
In Our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
God bless you! Keep on keeping on. I pray for rapture every day! I pray everyone is ready to meet Jesus. You are my fire preacher for Jesus Christ. What a blessing you are to all of us. Love ya.
HYDE PARK, NEW YORK

I enjoy your program very much and get so very much from it. I am closer to Jesus more than ever in my 75 years. Praise the Lord. If you have any free literature, would you kindly send it to me.
DUDLEY, MAINE

I have never gone to sleep during one of your messages! Except once when I had to work all night.
CHAMBERLAIN, SOUTH DAKOTA

We watch every Sunday even when we travel in motor home on direct satellite
MONTESANO, WASHINGTON

Thank you so much for your ministry. We’ve been watching you for almost 30 years. My mother and 2 sisters also watch. We were brought together even though we were in 4 different states. My mother and baby sister have gone home to be with the Lord, but my older sister and I still watch and it brings us closer to our loved ones.
FREMONT, NEBRASKA

What a beautiful, complete and simple explanation of the gospel. How did we get to the point of such nonsense preached from the pulpit today (Jer. 5:31; 2 Tim. 4:3)? My heart breaks. Thank you, Pastor, and everyone at Christian Worship Hour, for standing strong and preaching the Word. I just found your program 2 months ago. It has given me new hope. I am so thankful to be able to sow my seed into GOOD ground. Love in Christ.
BIXBY, OKLAHOMA

I was raised on a farm and spent many times drinking in the bars. My sins were many in my teen years. After my service in the Air Force, I moved to Kankakee, Illinois and worked in the coal mines. A man gave me a Bible that I read every day on my lunch hour. God was working on my heart. I realized that God could save even me. Ephesians 2:8-9. By grace, not of works. It was a free gift and I trusted Him for my salvation.
KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS

Thank you for making all of us feel like we’re part of a loving family. Words can’t express how much you and your helpers mean to so many of us. You truly have the “Heart of a Shepherd”. We thank God for you.
SAINT LOUIS PARK, MINNESOTA

Greetings! God bless you! Watching you on Daystar! Yeng Rodriguez De Marino
FLORENCE, ITALY

Please send me the film about Pastor Salem “Heart of a Shepherd”. Does he ride a wild bull in his movie?
AMES, IOWA

Enclosed is a gift of $45 for The Christian Worship Hour from our Hull Christian Reformed Ladies Aid. May this be a blessing to your broadcast on Sunday A.M.—When the opportunity avails itself. May God bless you all—-so appreciate the simplicity of Pastor Salem’s messages. I would appreciate 2 copies of the DVD of “Heart of a Shepherd”; if possible. Thank you, Hull Church Ladies Aid.
HAGUE, NORTH DAKOTA

Thank you. The Christian Worship Hour changed my life forever. Thank you for helping my Lord find His way back into my heart.
DES MOINES, IOWA
