"A New Song" MARCH 2017

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

2,500 years ago the Godly Nehemiah made a statement that was true then as it is today–

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

Nehemiah made this statement to the Children of Israel during some hard times, and it brought encouragement and strength., All of us find times when the day goes hard, but His promise always helps us. The joy of the Lord brings many blessings:

  • BEING JOYFUL GLORIFIES GOD
When we first read that statement, we wonder, how can a lowly being bring glory to the great God of all creation? It sounds like a worm bringing glory to some fisherman. Yet God tells us, “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me.” (Ps. 50:23). And remember poor old Job out on the ash pile about to die, yet proclaims to the whole world, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him,” (Job 13:15). When a dying man praises God, the whole world pays attention. The world still marvels at Paul and Silas who, at midnight and in prison, “sang praises unto God” and consequently brought glory to His name. (Acts 16:25). We can do the same thing!
  • BEING JOYFUL HELPS US PERSONALLY.
You know what? If you say “I am sick” ten times, you probably will become sick! Sounds impossible, but I see it done all the time-somebody talked themselves into being sick, if that isn’t sick. So flip the coin and say ten times, “I am happy in Jesus,” and I’ll eat my hat if you don’t get happier. St. Paul caught unto that 2,000 years ago when he advised all the sour-pusses, “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Phil. 4:4). So go on with the long-face, but it won’t glorify God, believe me! And you won’t get invited out to dinner either. (Psalm 34:3).
  • BEING JOYFUL HELPS OTHERS
We are living in some very hard days, the economic situation being one of them. Some folks have financial setbacks; you may be sitting next to someone like that in church or wherever you may be—someone with an aching heart. If you smile, let them know you love Jesus and that you are counting on Jesus to carry you through because He said He would be with us to the end of the age, or our age. It can help lighten their load. (Matt. 28:20). A sour outlook on life hurts those about us and disgraces the Name of our Lord. Throw out the dill pickles and get some sweet pickles! Make everybody happy. (John 16:33)
  • BEING JOYFUL IS FOUNDED IN JESUS
The young people think that if they had a lot of money, they would be joyful people. What they don’t realize is that there are multitudes of rich people who are not happy. They do not realize that being happy, joyful people NEVER depends on our surroundings or circumstances. A person can have a fortune and lose it overnight. The same goes for our health, our friends, our income, or whatever. The ONLY sound basis for joy is Jesus! He never changes, and He wants us to be rejoicing people. (John 15:11). That way, even if we have tough times, we can be rejoicing people. St. Paul put it this way, “As sorrowful yet rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich: as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.” (II Cor. 6:10).

So my dear friends, throw yourself wholly on Jesus and He will give you joy and strength for what lies ahead. Whatever you do, don’t go it without Jesus.
What lies ahead? Only God knows. I know many of you have your life style changed because of the world situation. I am a child of the depression, and in those days, much worse than now, we always put God first. If the times were tough, we just drew closer to God.
So the Christian Worship Hour with the good news of the Gospel and with the promises of God to give hope to many, needs your continued prayers and gifts. We are not underwritten by any organization, and we are totally dependent on God’s people to supply our needs. So don’t forget, in hard times and at all times, we put God first. (Matt. 6:33)
God bless you! I’ll be watching for you this weekend!

Sincerely In Christ,
Harold E. Salem, pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

TOWER CITY, NORTH DAKOTA

Thank you for your plain, no frills service.

ASHLAND, MISSOURI

I am 98 ½. I accepted Jesus in 1950 at a Billy Graham meeting. It took a lot of God’s grace to get rid of all the garbage. I’m now waiting for the new heaven. There were so many times God could have left me but He didn’t. Thanks to His patience. I would like to get The New Song.

VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON

Dear Pastor Salem, I get to watch you at my grandma’s house. I am 5 years old.

FREDERICK, SOUTH DAKOTA

Here is a love offering, not very much but maybe it will help a little. I’m sending it from the Seventh day Pentecostal House of Prayer. My husband is blind and 91 years old. I’m 84. We took care of the church for 30 years.

TULSA, OKLAHOMA

I don’t have many friends but the last part of my week is watching The Christian Worship Hour each Saturday on Daystar. Your preaching and reading of letters brings me lots of joy! Keep on doing what you do as God allows.

ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA

Sometime ago now, I opened the door to my heart for Jesus to enter and He certainly has. He has been with me by my side all through my bout with cancer.

MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA

When I was young, I had an abortion. Will I get to see my baby in heaven?

MOUNT ANGEL, OREGON

Hello, I am a 20 year old inmate. I just got locked up. I was a half-believer but I got locked up and became a new found Christian. I hate that it took so long to find God but I know God welcomed me with open arms. I am also the new spiritual leader. It is a new weird feeling but it is a great feeling. I’m going end this letter like Paul. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

MARYVILLE, MISSOURI

Stay in the buggy, you are really reaching a lot of people.

BUFFALO, SOUTH DAKOTA

I wish you could save a brief moment in order to pray to our Savior for my beloved Martha who has severe health problems. Thank you in advance. Also I still am listening here in Havana to your Sunday morning sermons and teachings on short wave radio every week. God bless you for spreading the Lord’s Word. Your brother in Jesus.

HAVANA, CUBA

I wanted to let you know that I have given my heart and my life to Jesus. This past Saturday at the end of your message, I repeated the sinners prayer with you and invited Jesus into my heart and life and asked Him to save me. I ask you to pray for me that I will live my life that will be pleasing to God. Please send me some literature that you have.

VERNON, ALABAMA

We listen to your program every Sunday. We are home bound. I had my leg amputated. Your program has pulled us through many hardships and gave us a lift to keep on going. Thanks for being there for us. We never miss it.

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA
